The one the only (unoriginal daredevil... haha) Kyger
Actor's Diary by Scott Kyger
Skits-O-Phrenia was collection of original student written, produced, and performed plays. We were hoping to have scripts from school staff members as well, but there was no response. In the end, we performed three plays all written and directed by Austin Herring. The three play were: Magazines Are Boring, Dictator and Mom, and Backstage Story. I was cast in Magazines and Backstage.
Magazines had a veteran cast, but many of the cast members were busy with other school activities. Therefore many of our rehearsals consisted of stand-ins. Naturally there was concern over the fact that we were without a full cast most of the time, but on performance night the show went without a hitch.
The audience was not into the show though. Magazines was a very psychological play and I suppose most of the audience members were expecting a lot of farting sounds, jokes about prostitutes, etc.
Dictator and Mom received a big response from the audience. Mainly because of Randal McCloud's ridiculous mustache and the fact that Eric Ferguson plays a woman very well.
In Backstage I played a high, dumb football jock (I still don't know how I got the role). It was an extremely fun role to play. I was worried though about the large number of freshmen in the cast (just kidding guys). I'm not kidding (yes I am). No, I'm not. The freshmen (surprisingly) did do a very good job. Backstage was the last show performed, and well what can I say? The audience loved it. The combination of slapstick and the fact that one of the characters is high left the audience rolling in the aisles.
I would like to see Skits-o-Phrenia become an annual event at Sumter High School. To make that happen we will need a larger response next year. If you have a script give it to us. It does not matter how wacky, serious, insane, etc. it is. Give it to us. If you only have an idea tell us. More than likely we can help you with it and make it into a full script. See Mr. Melton or me (Scott Kyger) if you have any questions.
Thanks Scott, you're the GREATEST!!! We finally have something up here! If you have any comments or want to put up any kind of summary, cast diary, or review, of a play or movies just email me! Thanks for including your wonderful struggle with commenting on freshmen class (I'm a freshmen... but I'll forgive you since you sent something to post...)
Actor's Diary by Scott Kyger
When Mr. Melton told my Drama II class that we would be performing All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, I was very excited. I had heard of the play before. I knew that it was a very deep and touching yet humorous play. A friend of mine had performed the monologue Howard from it and I enjoyed it very much (I ended up performing it myself in our production).
I did have worries though. We only had three weeks before our scheduled performance. We did not want to cut any of the scenes from the play, but in the end were forced to, due to lack of rehearsal time. Originally, Kindergarten was written as a musical, but we did not receive the music until a week before the performance. So we were forced to cut the songs we had planned on including.
All of these problems built up to the opening night. The entire cast was extremely nervous (more so than usual). Opening night went wonderful though (a surprise to all of us). The next night (our last performance) lacked a good audience, but we still put on a great show and ended on a good note.
If you have any questions email me or Quinn Tokaz!
